Green Flag Status
Our school is very proud to have been awarded two Green Flags, which is a national award scheme managed by Eco Schools, first in 2010 and then renewed in 2012. To achieve this award we were inspected to make sure we had an Eco Committee made up of children, staff, parents and governors, we had an action plan to improve Recycling, Re-Using and Reducing waste and energy within the school, that we spent time in our curriculum developing ‘Eco’ themes and that our actions we having an impact on our school and local community. We are one of only twenty-two schools in the whole of Wiltshire to have Green Flag status.
Our approach to being an Eco School is much more than collecting awards, it is about instilling attitudes and behaviours in our children that will protect God’s creation for generations to come. We take every opportunity, through the curriculum and collective worship, to develop our children’s interest and awareness of how to reduce our impact on the environment. It affects the choices the school makes when purchasing products and services. We have Eco Days and an active afterschool Eco Club. Our school grounds are full of special wildlife areas, composting areas, raised beds for growing our own food and even a wind turbine to generate our own electricity. Our residential trips always have an 'Eco' theme and we have established a long standing relationship with Minstead Study Centre.
